Project Description
Robert Gordons College are developing proposals for a new Sports Building which will sit in the location of their existing Science Block. Through the development of the Sports Building project it became apparent that, in order for the Science block to be demolished, a series of enabling works were required.
The works include relocation of the existing kitchen, refurbishment and extension of the existing Dining Hall, construction of a new, 2-storey Energy Centre a new escape stair. The Blackfriars Building shares an escape stair with the Science Block which needs to be replaced prior to demolition, this in turn resulted in a reconfiguration of the Kitchen and Dining Hall. Relocation of the existing kitchen will create new, modern catering kitchen and office spaces. The refurbishment and extension of the Dining Hall will provide the school with increased dining capacity while upgrades will be made to enhance the existing façade.
The new energy centre will comprise of 2 storeys and will replace the existing plant space in the Science Block and allow for a site wide services renewal and relocation, and along with the new escape stair to the Blackfriars Building, pave the way for the Science Block demolition.
All of these works require the school to remain operational throughout with minimal disruption to a busy school.
