Project Description
The project comprises the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation of 84nr offshore wind turbines and 2 Offshore Transmission Modules located approximately 13.5km off the east coast of Scotland in the Outer Moray Firth.
Using new generation Siemens Wind Power 7MW turbines, the total generating capacity is 588MW of electric power from renewable energies, enough to power 450,000 homes.
Project owners SSE (40%) Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) (35%) and SDIC Red Rock Power Ltd (25%) approved construction of the project in May 2016, signalling one of the largest private investments ever made in Scottish Infrastructure
In addition to the offshore works, the project also includes the construction of a new Operation and Maintenance facility in Wick. The export cable from the OTM’s comes onshore at Port Gordon with a new substation being constructed at Blackhillock to allow connection to the network.
Our Role / Scope
Our role on the project was to provide commercial and contract management services to support various business functions within the client consortium BOWL following Financial Close. This included providing bespoke reports/presentations to Finance Director, Procurement & Commercial team, Project Management team together with the Project Director.
Our delivery was managed by the provision of an embedded Director who undertook the role of Framework Manager. By having a hands on delivery role and being embedded within the Client organisation, we were able to plan resource levels and respond to the peaks in demand throughout the project.
Our delivery largely comprised re-measurement and agreement of the Approved for Construction design and Third Party certified design of the WTG jackets and foundations. By rigorous interrogation of the contractors claims and provision of our independent expertise and guidance we achieved a significant reduction in the value of the contractors claims.
