Broomhills Primary School

  • Broomhills Primary School

Project Description

Doig+Smith were engaged to deliver a further 3 Primary Schools following the successful procurement of St John’s Primary School under the CEC Framework.  One of these was a brand new offering to the South East of Edinburgh to complement new residential areas.  We recommended a bespoke procurement arrangement based on the Client’s key value drivers and  governmental best practice guidance. CEC welcomed this approach and enacted the procurement route on this and two other Primary Schools. The Supply Chain also welcomed the approach. Early engagement with Designers to detail the cost sensitive aspects and the site constraints / project abnormals, including the ground conditions delivered by providing developer.

The new school provides 2-stream Primary placement along with Nursery care.  The external works are extensive as the site is 1.9 Ha; this includes a 7-a-side pitch and hard/soft landscaping as well as playground and Nursery play areas.  The design takes account of most recent thoughts and guidance from various public bodies and education authorities, regarding space planning and teaching narrative.
