Project Description

During September 2018 Glasgow Golf Club’s, Killmermont House was significantly damaged by a major fire.

Significant design, procurement and construction programme was undertaken to reinstate core elements of the existing Club House building. This included main structure, floors, walls and roof, with only the perimeter walls remaining from its predecessor. This was coupled with a significant extension to the existing Club House, and enhanced specification across the facility for the fitout and MEP works.

Our Role / Scope

Doig and Smith provided Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Principal Designer and Quality Monitoring services for the Project across the entirety of the project work stages. The project team are currently navigating the Construction Stage of the project in line with the current programme. The project reached PC on 22 June 2021.

The Project Management team are were involved in: Regular reporting to the Client’s Deputy Sub-Committee group (elected by Glasgow Golf Club Members), Design team management, programme management,   claim    review and assessment, change control, contract administration and budget management.

The Quantity Surveying team were involved in carrying out monthly valuations and cost reporting.  Proactively managing any change control in line with the project budget.

The Principal Designer Team were involved in reviewing and commenting on the Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan, carrying out risk assessments, reporting to the Client and liaising with the Contractor to complete the Health and Safety File.

The Quality Monitoring Team were involved in: Inspecting quality of construction works in relation to contract drawings and current building regulations and compiling a monthly report to this effect.

Benefits To Client

The Refurbishment of the existing Club House coupled with the new extension has provided not only a larger Club House for the World’s ninth oldest Golf Club but also improved facilities for the Glasgow Golf Club members compared to the previous facility which was a converted house.

The enhanced specification will allow the Glasgow golf Club to function as a purpose built, state of the art facility for its members more aligned with the 21st Century boutique style golf clubs attracting new members of all ages and genders.

This was achieved through extensive discussions and design iterations with project stakeholders, to ensure maximisation of the Client’s brief and to align with the Client’s budget.

The new facility will provide:

  • Improved Male Changing Facility
  • Additional Ladies and Junior changing
  • Improved bars, dining and function experience
  • Improved catering facilities
  • State of the art golf simulator software
  • Spa facilities such as sauna and steam room
