House of Dun Heritage Park

  • House of Dun Heritage Park

Project Description

In one of the National Trust for Scotland’s most significant projects of the 2021, The House of Dun Visitor Attraction in Montrose was completely revamped.

The project’s aim was to refresh the site in order to attract higher visitor numbers. The newly revitalised attraction will highlight the history of Angus and tell the stories of the skilled local people who worked in the House of Dun.

The works included almost a complete strip out and restoration of the existing courtyard buildings to make the necessary repairs in preparation for the builders works and decoration. These improvements along with the effective application of the interior design elements, coupled with the Angus Folk collection pieces and their interactive effects, has transformed the attraction which is now welcoming around 300 people per day.

Our Role / Scope

Our role in the project was to provide Quantity Surveying services from inception through tender and construction to completion, which was achieved in June 2021.

From the outset of our involvement in the project, Doig+Smith have provided our Client with various cost option appraisals to drive value into the scheme, and ensure the Client’s available budget is focussed on the correct areas of the development to maximise the impact of their investment.

We undertook a focused cost planning stage along with the input of the design team to develop a project budget to inform the final design process in keeping with the Clients requirements.

We also undertook the preparation of a full Bill of Quantities process which included continual collaboration with the design team and the wider project team in order to meet the project timeline. An analysis was then undertaken on the offers received and a recommendation put forward to the Client for a final appointment decision.

We undertook Post Contract Cost Management services to ensure a robust control of the contract sum against post contract variations to continue to meet Client expectations despite the challenges a historic project such as this involves when works commence.
