Project Description
The works were to install a new Data Hall into a existing data centre facility providing 2MW of data. Working closely with the Client’s delivery team, the project was procured through a Two-Stage tendering process and utilised the JCT Design & Build Contract.
The works compromised of the formation of the new modular data hall and full fit out to provide the IT support to the Data cabinets. Services included new Switchgear, Transformer, UPS, PDUs, HVAC system and fire suppression. On completion a full fail safe testing and commissioning check was completed.
Works were carried out in an existing live Data Centre requiring high level security access. The existing halls also needed continuous power supply for their 24hr operation.
Our Role / Scope
Doig+Smith provided Contract and Tendering/ Procurement support to the Client as well as full Post Contract Quantity Surveying and Employer’s Agent roles.
Pre-Contract Doig+Smith led a two Stage tendering process incorporating a scoring matrix to ensure the Client was getting a suitably experienced Contractor while ensuring value for money. In addition, and working alongside the Client’s advisor, Doig+Smith were critical in implementing the Contract through liaison with the Client and the Client’s funder legal representatives and negotiating terms with the chosen Contractor.
Post Contract, Doig+Smith’s Employer’s Agent role ensured an impartial link between the Client and the Contractor. This role included, issuing instructions, payment notices and completion certificates as well as chairing monthly project meetings and ensuring actions were progressed. The Quantity Surveying role was to look after all commercial elements of the contract and issue monthly Cost Reports and agree the Final Account.
